Artist Opportunities
Jewelry or Small 3D
While the building housing Art Uptown for nearly 43 years is now for sale, we continue to welcome applicants who would like to join us, with the understanding we may need to vacate the premises at some future date.
We currently have openings for jewelry, or 3D art small enough to fit into our glass jewelry case (please stop by the gallery to see the case before applying).
If you are a professional artist living in this area year-round, we invite you to apply for this chance to become one of our ongoing gallery artists, for increased exposure and sales. We have thrived in our Main Street location since 1980. For years, we have been voted Sarasota’s favorite gallery by readers of local publications.
See our application procedures below.
Art Uptown Gallery exhibits the work of over two dozen artists whose work is both diverse and complementary. When a position for a 2D (wall display), 3D (pedestal display) or jewelry (case display) artist opens up, we welcome submissions from professional artists living year-round in the Sarasota area.
Once your application is reviewed, you may be asked to bring three pieces to the gallery for further consideration. These pieces should be ready to hang or display and be a good representation of the type and quality of work you would show if you are accepted. After a final review and vote by all the gallery artists, you will be notified of the result.
If accepted into the gallery, you will be required to pay a one-time initiation fee of $150 and monthly dues of $150. When your work is sold, the gallery will take a 20 percent commission. You will be expected to occasionally staff the gallery, participate on a committee, attend monthly meetings and change your work monthly. Artist responsibilities involve coming to the gallery at least once a month, and sometimes as often as 2 to 4 times in a month. More information about artist responsibilities will be provided if you pass the first screening. Upon acceptance into the gallery, details about gallery standards and operations will be provided.
