Karen Case

Artist Statement
I am constantly challenged to achieve excellence and strive to create items of enduring beauty and individuality.  For my method of construction, I chose the inventiveness of hand-building, oftentimes braving the difficulties of porcelain, even for Raku.  The beauty of a Rakued porcelain vessel is outstanding.

I enjoy experimentation, not being bound to any technique or form.  For glazing and firing, I prefer Raku, although I do use gas, soda, electric and wood firing.  Each has it's own beauty.   But I always return to Raku.  I love to experience the jubilation of having a vessel survive the thermal shock of the Raku process.  I love the immediate excitement of watching the magical color development of a successful firing.
