Amy Webber - Parallel Perspectives
Art Uptown presents a show of Amy Webber's fine ceramics and oil paintings this December
Webber's distinctive ceramic pieces usually start with forms thrown on the potter's wheel, then are altered or embellished with hand building. “My ceramic work moves toward abstract concepts inspired by nature and all its critters,” she says.
Her paintings, in contrast, are more realistic. Webber works outside, on location, to create narratives of the emotions she feels when connected to the environment of the the natural world. Her goal is for the viewer to feel the moment---to stand in her shoes while viewing and experiencing what she did when she painted. “Another reason I prefer to paint outside, with my easel and oil paints, is to catch the light of the day, or sunset,” she explains.
For Webber, the creative experiences of ceramics and painting go hand in hand, which is why she titled her show Parallel Perspectives. Over the years, she has worked in many art forms. Her background includes a commercial art degree from Illinois State University, along with experience in architectural design, fashion design, photography and teaching.
Art Uptown warmly welcomes its patrons and friends to share its thirty-eighth holiday season in its central location on Sarasota’s colorful Main Street. The diverse work of all of Art Uptown's 30 artists will be shown along with Webber's featured pieces, at the reception and for the duration of the show. The gallery is open Monday-Thursday, 11-5, Friday 11-9, Saturday 11-5, and Sunday 12-5. Telephone: 941-955-5409. www.artuptown.com.
